How to Help at Help This Jew
How to help:
Let’s face it: Times are tough these days, and there are a lot of people in our community who need help to pay their basic bills. Whilst there are lots of charities that try to help out those in need, we wanted to do something a little different. Here’s an example: There was an article a few months ago about a man who needed to pay for braces for his children. He had no money, having been out of work for a while, and he had to beg others to help him with this basic need for his children. This is something we can all relate to.
This site is for Jews who just need a temporary hand, to help them out of a tough jam. We deal with situations like:
-
A single mother who is behind on the rent and being threatened with eviction.
-
A father of five who needs to pay for his daughter’s wedding (we’re talking basics here – the kind of wedding done for a couple of grand, not the kind done for tens of thousands of dollars).
-
A college student whose parents can no longer afford his tuition because they lost their jobs to the Great Recession.
These are stories all of us can relate to and that we can actually understand. They happen to everyone and sometimes, people who never thought they’d need to look for help are forced to do so.
The beauty of our service is that it’s not a regular handout to people in perpetual need, nor is it a faceless charity where you are told, nebulously, that the money will be given to those in need. The grants we provide are one time only and help out with a temporary problem.
You can donate money in the form of points. Each point is worth $1. You can donate a specific amount of money and then distribute it slowly to those who you want to help or give it all to one person who needs it. By aggregating the money from you and other donors, we can help those in need. All you have to do is use our form to donate money, using your credit card, and then choose who you want to distribute your points to. You can donate as little as one point per person. This is something that virtually anyone can afford to participate in, and of course there is no limit to the maximum that can be donated.
